VISITORS to next month’s Taste food and drink festival at the Metrocentre, Gateshead, will be the first to try out a new range of artisan chocolates with a nostalgic flavour.

Chocolatier Jane Williams will be taking a stall at The Journal’s food and drink extravaganza on September 25 and 26 to showcase the chocolates.

The tasty new Floral collection of fondant centres from Davenport’s Chocolates, based in North Shields, offers enticing flavours such as fennel blossom, lavender, bergamot, rose geranium, lemon flower and rosemary, as well as a recreated quintessential violet cream.

Jane says: “We will be giving our local customers the chance to buy these for the first time ever at the Taste event at the Metrocentre. It’s a great opportunity to launch the range, so we hope to create a bit of a buzz about it.”

With an awareness of heritage, but a passion for discovering the creative potential in chocolate, Davenport’s Chocolates have been exploring a bouquet of floral flavours. Working hard to balance the aroma and flavour of natural oils with the sweetness of a fondant cream is critical. The aromas must ‘sing’ through the sweetness, and have the strength to counter the rich dark chocolate they’re covered with.

The Taste event will see some 40 artisan local food and drink suppliers descend on the Metrocentre for the weekend.
